The Yellow 1970 STRIP DOWN

This bike has had a tough life.

First off with the pedals

Are these MKI or MKII. ?? Please leave a comment if you know?

Then off with the chain wheels

Off with the Gear Shift. Again I have no idea what is missing on the numbered window or red/orange slide.

Off with both brakes.

They are both heavily pitted and need re-chroming .

next the bars come off and looking at the pictures on some web sites theses may be MKI or MKII please can you tell me?

Now to the kick stand. no fancy tools for me.

Grind a notch into a clamp from the £ shop.

Place a fat washer and slowly tighten the clamp an out pops the pin, easy p easy.

Next the butchered crank collars, grind the bulk off then using a file to remove the last bits.

One end off easily.

This on (left-hand thread) was a different job. it would not budge. so I welded a large nut using dissimilar welding rods and the un screwed with a large spanner.

Needles to say I now need a new set.

 Lots of re chroming needed.

Front mudguard to far gone I am afraid.

The finished frame ready for re paint. Same Yellow

  1. Ok, here goes.....

Yopur brake levers are mk1 levers, The pedals are mk2.

Now, the shifter is missing the orange slide indicator, the slider table and it also has a broken pin.

If you look at the photo of the shifter on the frame, look next to where the metal ferrule of the shifter cable goes into the shifter, there should be TWO pegs standing up. Yours has one broken away.

Next, the DRIVE-SIDE (Chainwheel side) bearing cup is "FIXED", I.E, not meant to be removed unless it is being replaced.
